John Stunt Named New CCSTA Executive Director

John StuntFollowing a Canada-wide search, CCSTA is pleased to announce that John Stunt has been named Executive Director of its Association. President Regis O’Connor made the announcement on June 5th at the Annual General Meeting in Victoria.

“Mr. Stunt brings a wealth of experience in Catholic education”, President O’Connor stated. He has served as teacher, school and board administrator, and presently as the Executive Director for the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association. Mr. Stunt will be succeeding Greg McNally who is retiring from the position at the end of this year. We thank Mr. McNally for his service to CCSTA and welcome Mr. Stunt to our Association.

John Stunt, a resident of Pembroke in the Ottawa Valley, looks forward to the interesting work at CCSTA. Mr. Stunt stated , “I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve in Catholic education at the national level. I know that I will continue to work with provincial associations, as I have done in the past, only in a new capacity. There will be many opportunities to make new acquaintances in Catholic education across Canada, something I will enjoy.”

Since its inception in 1960, CCSTA has had five Executive Directors (in earlier years, the position was Executive Secretary). The Executive Directors have been John Middleweek (1960-1977), Fr. Patrick H. Fogarty (1977-1985), Dr. B.E. Nelligan (1985-1992), Dr. John Flynn (1992-2004) and W. Gregory McNally (2004-2009).

CCSTA is the national voice for Catholic trustees, representing French and English boards in Canada which serve over 850,000 students in Catholic schools. In 2010 the Association will celebrate its 50th anniversary as an organization.
