CCSTA Chaplain Called to Rome

Fr. John van den HengelIn June of this year, Father John van den Hengel, Chaplain for CCSTA, was called to the Vatican in Rome for the next six years to serve on the General Council of his Congregation (The Priests of the Sacred Heart).

Father John has played an important leadership role in Canada, including having served as a professor at St. Paul University in Ottawa, as a writer and reviewer for religious texts for the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, and teaching religious education courses throughout Canada.

In January 2005, Father John joined CCSTA as its Chaplain, a calling he served admirably as the spiritual advisor for the Association. Fr. John has been an active member of the Education, News and Information Committee. He was an active planner, participant, and priestly celebrant in the annual conventions and at CCSTA”s first Catholic Education: A National Conversation conference. Readers of CCSTA’s Newsletter will recall the inspirational messages of Chaplain’s Corner.

CCSTA expresses its appreciation and prayerful best wishes to Father John van den Hengel for his generous gift of spiritual leadership. The Association has been blessed by your faith and personal presence.

Blessings Father John!
