2018 CCSTA AGM a Huge Success!

higgins awardAnother successful CCSTA Annual General Meeting is in the books. We would like to send a big thank you to this year’s organizing committee for putting on an incredibly enjoyable, informative, and relevant conference.

“It was excellent,” says CCSTA Executive Director Julian Hanlon. “The location, of course, was beautiful. The facilities were excellent. The speakers were very relevant. All in all, it was a very successful conference.”

Mr. Hanlon also emphasized how timely the speakers and workshops were.

“The list of speakers that they had covered a wide variety of topics, but all the topics were very relevant to what trustees are dealing with back in their school board,” he says. “That was very appreciated.”

On Saturday evening, Sr. Teresita Kambeitz was presented with the 2018 Higgins Award for a lifetime of dedication to faith and education. She gave an excellent and humbling speech.

“Everyone enjoyed the Higgins Award winner,” says Mr. Hanlon. “She spoke very nicely.”

President Gazolla said the AGM is a great opportunity for people from across the country to come together to talk about Catholic education. He added that it is especially useful for attendees to understand the different challenges that exist in the provinces where Catholic schools aren’t fully funded.

“A lot of us don’t know how good we have it,” he says. “These conferences help make everyone aware of what’s going on around the country.”

Each year, the Toonies for Tuition trophy is handed out to both the school board and the province that raises the most amount of money per full-time enrollment student. The winner of this year’s board trophy was Evergreen Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 2 in Spruce Grove, Alberta who raised $12,000, the equivalent of $2.87 per pupil. The winner of the provincial trophy was Alberta/NWT/Yukon. Thank you once again to Saskatchewan for igniting some healthy competition amongst the funded provinces, and to all for your generous support of the Toonies for Tuition Campaign.

President Gazolla and Mr. Hanlon both expressed thanks to the organizing committee and host board for putting on such a wonderful event.

“They had a very small organizing committee, but they did an incredible job,” says President Gazolla. “They were able to put on an excellent and opportunistic AGM with the limited funding that they have.”

“I really want to thank the organizing committee,” says Mr. Hanlon. “It was a small group, and the whole conference went very well. They even organized an excellent package for spouses that were there as well. They had a number of tours and activities that were extremely fun and enjoyable.”
